MALE, Mar 19 (HNS) - National Disaster Management Center has said that the construction of 694 out of the 2,788 houses to be built for tsunami victim Internally Displaced Persons has been started.
The Center said that from the houses which are currently being built, 70 houses had now been completed for the victims of the December 26 tsunami.
Most of the permanent shelters are being built in Laamu atoll Gan. Disaster Management Center said that 240 houses are being built in that island.
The Center said that the construction of the 600 houses in Raa atoll Dhuvaafaru will start on April 11. This is the biggest tsunami related housing project on one island.
They also said that from the houses being built in 55 islands, 35 houses have been built in Kaafu atoll Guraidhoo and that they will be handed over to the government within this month.
They added that the construction of 14 houses in Maafushi will be completed next month.
